Applying to the Program:

Each year, over 8,000 students apply for admission to Christopher Newport University. Of these, approximately 700 students apply to the President’s Leadership Program.

Each of these students must submit an application to the President's Leadership Program.

• Of those applicants, approximately 400 will be invited to campus for a day long series of activities that include a discussion of principles of leadership by President Trible and an opportunity to learn more about the program by participating in a number of leadership exercises, attending academic classes and staying overnight on campus with other Leadership students.
• Candidates for the Canon Leadership Scholars Program will also be interviewed by a panel of students, faculty and staff.
• The top 25 students selected each year for the President's Leadership Program - the most academically gifted and those who have exceptional leadership qualities - will become Canon Leadership Scholars and will receive a $5,000 merit scholarship each year for a total of $20,000.
