The following statement was released today by
CNU President
Paul Trible:
"I am pleased to announce the establishment of the Canon Leadership Scholars Program at Christopher Newport University.
Twenty-five of the top students chosen to participate in CNU's prestigious President's Leadership Program will become Canon Leadership Scholars starting with our next freshmen class. They will receive a $5,000 merit scholarship each year for a total of $20,000.
Every year our friends at Canon will commit half a million dollars to support each entering class of Canon Scholars. What a remarkable expression of confidence in CNU and this strong and generous support will empower our students and enrich the academic life of the university.
"Working together, our purpose is to empower the Canon Leadership Scholars to become caring, knowledgeable and effective leaders in America and the world."
CNU President Paul Trible |
Canon Leadership Scholars must demonstrate excellence and exceptional potential in the areas of leadership, scholarship and service. At CNU they will pursue a rigorous academic curriculum in their chosen field of study and will also choose from an array of academic courses over four years that lead to a minor in leadership studies. The President's Leadership Program also provides each student enrichment activities including foreign study, guest speakers, a summer outdoor leadership experience, internships and requires hundreds of hours of community service.
Canon is a great corporate citizen, known and respected around the world, and we are honored to receive this support. Working together, our purpose is to empower these students to become caring, knowledgeable and effective leaders in America and the world."
